W Rockland Street

W Rockland Street is a 1-block residential street in the Germantown section of Philadelphia (19144) located between Greene St and Germantown Ave in the 39th Police District.

In 2009, our neighbors got energized and established a new neighborhood organization. Together, W Rockland Street Neighbors will take a stand against the problems that have plagued our block for years, including litter and illegal dumping in the blocks three vacant lots. We will strive to rejuvenate our block and surrounding neighborhood by creating an open forum for dialogue in our community. We hope to build a stronger community by getting to know our neighbors, providing resources for our community, hosting regular block meetings and cleanups, activities for children and more. We want to think big and join together to rev·o·lu·tion·ize W Rockland Street and build a better and sustainable community by creating a cleaner and safer place to live.

This blog will document our community’s efforts to improve our block and the challenges we face, while serving as an example of what one Philadelphia city block can do to change its future. Think progress.

The W Rockland Street blog is managed by Ainé Doley and Emaleigh Doley, sisters and longtime block residents.

Ainé and Emaleigh joined longtime block resident Hope Campbell to become Co-Block Captains of W Rockland Street in March 2011. The city’s Block Captain program is organized by the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee (PMBC), part of the Streets Department’s Sanitation Division.
